Mr. Grant's History
I come from a very interesting and academic family. My grandfather on my father's side went to Harvard, and taught at Harvard Medical school. He discovered and wrote the definitive research on Glaucoma and the Toxicology of the eye. (A truly frighteningly intelligent individual). My grandfather on my mother's side was a Full Colonel in USAF and was at some very interesting postings. My uncle was Physicist turned artist. My father was an extremely well respected Dermatologist, Allergist, and Histopathologist (rare those guys) who knows more about WWI and WWII military history than anyone I've ever met. My sister has a Phd in molecular genetics researching at Mayo Clinic. My brother-in-law is, literally, a rocket scientist. He has a masters in mechanical engineering and designs spy satellites. Finally, my wife has two masters degrees one in Shakespearean literature (I think). As you can see, I've had some large shoes to fill with respect to my ancestors, sibling, and mate.
I grew up here in Phoenix. In fact, I went to Chaparral H.S. in Scottsdale. From Chaparral, I entered and graduated from Harvard University. I was always and always will be a swimmer and an engineer. I was a 7 time national competitor in swimming and kept switching between bio-mechanical and mechanical engineering degrees at Harvard until I was graduated.
After graduating, I couldn't decide what I wanted to do with my life. So, I returned home until my parents forced me to get a job. I had retired from competitive swimming due to chronic shoulder shoulder injuries, but I was still an athlete. So, I picked up golf with every intention of becoming better than Tiger Woods. To this end, I worked in Hospitality and Restaurant management for about 7 years. When my shoulders couldn't take the punishment of a golf swing anymore, I turned to my first love swimming. I became a national level head swimming coach for a more than decent swimming program. When I didn't want to move to keep coaching, I turned to what I was best at teaching the seemingly complex world of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. I have been a teacher for the last 7 years and have found my true vocation. This will be my 4th year teaching at AAEC.
